Modern ambulance service is a relatively new community resource. Why we have the system we have, whether our service meets the need, and how we improve the system to better match the need are critical questions for local leaders.
Dave is an expert on ambulance systems and advises leaders, communities, governments, and the press internationally on the history and science of modern ambulance service.
EMS Background + Experience
Dave started his professional career as a city paramedic. He was a paramedic and leader in large ambulance systems across the United States. He pioneered actually majoring in ambulance systems in college and researched and improved them as a consultant, researcher, and university faculty member. Dave is an internationally respected expert on ambulance service systems.
Research on ambulance system design and operations is a recognized gap. Dave’s research into the obstacles to adopting evidence-based and patient-centered practices remains a landmark contribution to our understanding of ambulance systems. He introduced the Science of Improvement and core tools and methods to organizations, and his work in patient safety and developing a patient harm trigger tool is in use internationally.
