Assessing of Progress in Making Quality an Organizational Strategy

How will your leadership team know if your organization is progressing to create a system for improvement?

The following guidelines are designed for leaders to evaluate progress in building their leadership system. After studying Chapter One of Quality as an Organizational Strategy, leaders are encouraged to complete a QOS assessment. Begin by asking each leader to complete the assessment individually from their perspective. Here is the abridged assessment from Table 1.5 in the book:

Completed scores are averaged together, and the data is displayed in a chart to support learning. I typically also calculate the standard deviation or the range. With these two numbers for each activity, create a chart like a scatter plot to see the results and support learning from the data.  Here is an example of a radar chart (left) of the team averages, and the same data is displayed in a scatter plot (right) showing the team average and the variation in responses.

As you study the rest of our book, return to your initial assessment and update your scoring. The upcoming QOS Field Guide (coming in 2025) includes an expanded version of the QOS assessment we use with leadership teams.
